About the Houndstooth Twill Fabric:

An interwoven knit fabric usually seen in a multi-tone cotton blend thread. Houndstooth features an uneven, random and whimsical cross hatch design where the thread takes turns in an over and under weave forming a crooked yet overall lineal rectangle pattern. The pattern exists but appears random and texturized. The cotton blend provides for a comfortable yet durable upholstery with the breathing advantages of natural fiber.

The Swan Chair was originally designed in 1958 by Danish designer and architect Arne Jacobsen for use throughout the Amsterdam Royal Hotel. The Swan Chair is an example of a classic furniture design inspired by the movement to adapt organic forms into our interior spaces. Appropriate to its name, the chair resembles an artful representation of the largest native North American bird, the trumpeter swan.

The Swan Chairs distinguished shape was created by omitting all straight lines from its design curved surfaces. The elegant shape is generous for lounging yet has an minimal airy appearance. This chair is not made by Fritz Hansen. We have no affiliation with Fritz Hansen.

Arne Jacobsen legendary as both an architect and designer, created the Swan Chair in 1958. The original use of the chair was a lounge piece throughout the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, a building designed by Jacobsen as well toward the end of the 50’s. The Swan sofa was created for the same project and is essentially an elongated version of the Swan Chair. The chair is completely lacking of obvious straight lines. To this day, the piece including its stitching is hand created primarily due to its unique curvatures. Reproducing the original form in curve and proportion is part of the quality story aside from materials used in premium reproductions. Ironically, the appreciation of Arne Jacobsen’s Royal Hotel was less appreciated than that of his furniture pieces used created for use in it.

Additional Info: The Royal Hotel, the first home of the Egg Chair located in Copenhagen is operational to this day. It is now owned and operated by Radisson.
