Harry Bertoia was born in 1915. He began his formal schooling in the arts beginning with painting and drawing at the Art School of the District Society in Michigan. 7 years later at the age of 22, he enrolled at the Cranbrook Academy of Art & Designs. It was at this academy that he began to rub shoulders with some names you may recognize as founders of the modernist movement.
